California State University, Long Beach Website Earns Prestigious Interactive Media Award
Developed in partnership with KWALL Company, site won Best in Class for “University” Category 

(Long Beach, Calif. September 9, 2015) — California State University, Long Beach has won an Interactive Media Award for its new website. Developed by KWALL Company, leading Web designer and developer, the university’s website is a testament to the importance technology plays in higher education today. 

KWALL and CSULB earned the highest level of recognition from the Interactive Media Awards by receiving a Best in Class award for a university website. Websites are evaluated based on their design, content, feature functionality, usability and standards compliance. The CSULB site was given an extremely high score of 485 points out of 500 possible. IMA stated that the site “represents the very best in planning, execution and overall professionalism.” 

“We set out to transform our visitor experience, rather than simply change our website,” said Andy Hoang, associate vice president, marketing and communications at CSULB. “We worked in conjunction with KWALL and are so pleased with the end result achieved. Not only does our new website make the higher education experience more accessible for current and prospective students, but it also caters to the central role technology plays in all our lives today.”

By using responsive design and hosting the website on cloud server Acquia, KWALL brought the CSULB website into the modern digital age. The team also used Drupal for the university’s content management system (CMS) and made compliance with the Accessibility Technology Initiative a priority. Every detail of the new site was designed with the goal of anticipating needs that visitors may have, and proactively meeting them through advanced technology. Instead of reading as an informational brochure as many university websites do, the CSULB site immerses the visitor into the CSULB culture with video, rich imagery and engaging interactions.
