Website Governance
Ensuring a well-organized and user-friendly website experience for all stakeholders involved is the goal of implementing effective website governance. At IUSD first, editors are provided with the necessary tools to edit and add content to their respective school sites, enabling them to keep information up-to-date and relevant. Second, administrators review and approve changes made by editors, ensuring quality control and adherence to established guidelines. Finally, content is distributed across the website based on user hierarchy, ensuring that the right information reaches the right audience within the district.
School Branding
At KWALL, we understand the importance of school branding, a strong and recognizable online identity, that fosters a sense of community and creates an engaging experience for students, parents, and staff members.
From the header/logo to the footer, buttons, calendar, and callouts, schools can customize these components to align with their brand identity. Ensuring a cohesive and visually appealing online presence that reflects each school's individuality.
Accessibility, Diversity, and Inclusion
At KWALL, accessibility is a key consideration in our development process. Our IUSD websites are developed to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards, ensuring that they are accessible to individuals with disabilities. We have incorporated built-in frontend accessibility features, such as a Text Size Changer, which allows users to customize the text size according to their needs. Additionally, our backend includes mandatory Alt text fields, enabling website administrators to provide alternative text descriptions for images, and enhancing accessibility for users who rely on screen readers. We have also implemented a new content auditing tool to ensure that content remains accessible and meets the necessary accessibility guidelines.
Intranet
We created a separate staff intranet for Irvine Unified School District, ensuring it aligns with the district's brand and operates on its own codebase. This dedicated intranet is designed with a focus on Human Resources, offering features such as document search and management, seamless integrations, a comprehensive staff directory, LDAP authentication for secure access, and staff-only calendar integration.
With its own distinct website on brand with iusd.org, the staff intranet provides a centralized platform for essential HR-related functions. Staff members can easily search and manage documents, access important resources, connect with colleagues through the staff directory, and stay updated on staff-specific events and deadlines through the dedicated calendar. The intranet's secure authentication ensures that only authorized staff members can access confidential information, promoting data privacy and security.
Migration
We successfully migrated all websites within the Irvine Unified School District from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9. By migrating to a better CMS, the Irvine Unified School District now enjoys improved performance, enhanced security measures, and modernized digital infrastructure. The updated websites provide a seamless user experience, empowering administrators to easily manage content and engage with their audience effectively.
